Holy Week 2020

Palm Sunday Greetings to everyone,

First and foremost, I would like to say that I have been praying for you all the past three weeks. As a priest, it is difficult to find myself in circumstances where I cannot be celebrating Mass with you daily.  A priest is meant to serve his people, and I hope you are accessing the unique ways I am reaching out to everyone in social media.

With the new shelter-in-place regulations set forth by Governor Reeves, I must request that nobody visit the church or chapel. There is no work essential that needs to be done in the church for anyone to violate the governor’s orders.  Please stay at home as the governor has ordered.  If you would like resources to help with faith formation during this time and stay up to date on things I am posting, please visit our website at https://www.stpaulvicksburg.org/

I wanted to tell every one of many of the things we have coming up this Holy Week so that we can participate together in the most important week of the year.  Unfortunately, we cannot come together for Mass, but there are a few opportunities I wanted to provide.

  1. Live Stream of Holy Week Masses—I will be live streaming all the Masses and services for Holy Week so that everyone can participate in each.  They can be found at our Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/Saint-Paul-Catholic-Church-of-Vicksburg-562031117586220/?view_public_for=562031117586220 You do not need to have a Facebook account to be able to watch the live streams or access anything posted on the page.
    1. Palm Sunday at 10:30 April 5
    2. Holy Thursday at 7:00pm April 9
    3. Good Friday at 3:00pm April 10
    4. Holy Saturday Vigil at 8:00pm April 11

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO COME TO THE CHURCH OR CHAPEL DURING THE LIVE STREAMING OF MASSES!  I WILL ASK YOU TO LEAVE AND IT WILL DELAY MY FILMING.  I do understand people want to come to Mass, and I wish I could have people there.  But public safety, the governor’s shelter-in-place order, and my own prudence requires everyone to stay home and stay safe.  We can call join in spiritual communion as the Body of Christ together at home.

  1. Distribution of Palms—Due to the directives provided by the Bishop, we will not be distributing Palms in any way or form.  Our distributor was unable to mail the palms and informed us they will not be able to mail at a later date.  Sorry we will not have palms this year.
  2. Sunday Homily—My homily will still be separately recorded so that people can listen to them during the week.
  3. If you have an Easter Basket from the Basket for Believers tree, please call the office so that we can arrange a time for you to drop the baskets off.
  4. Though we are not having Masses on the weekend, we are still asking people to give of the offertory to help us continue the functioning of the parish.  If you could either sign up for online giving at https://www.osvhub.com/st-paulscatholic-church/funds or mail to us your envelopes.  We greatly appreciate your generosity during this time.

Stay posted on our website at https://www.stpaulvicksburg.org/ or Facebook page to get your daily updates on everything.

Finally I want to wish everyone a blessed Holy Week.  I have been praying for everyone in the parish, and I hate that I cannot join you for the week.  But we will be back together for worship at some point.  In the meantime, let us pray for one another and stay in touch with one another.

God bless you all,

Fr. Rusty Vincent
